Haematococcus - An Overview

Haematococcus pluvialis (Chlorophyta) is a freshwater, unicellular green microalga with a rather complex life cycle. Among various natural sources, Haematococcus is a potent producer of astaxanthin (red carotenoid). The microalgae creates Astaxanthin to protect itself from stressful environmental conditions. This remarkable ability makes it a potent antioxidant.
