Strain isolation is a process involving isolation and identification of high yielding algae strains obtained from various sources under laboratory conditions to achieve higher quality and quantity of desired end product.
Algae strains can either be collected from environmental samples and isolated in laboratories using chemical and biological techniques, isolation of native single strain, or obtained from National Algae Repository.
Native algae strain is usually suggested for commercial cultivation of algae owing to better control on the algae growth conditions. The isolated strain is grown in laboratory conditions to understand the growth feasibility and culture characteristics.
Once the optimization and understanding of algae culture conditions is done, the culture is transferred to the inoculation pond.
